On Wednesday 23rd May, Holly Trees participated in the Big Sing at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal. On arrival they all participated in a mass sing with other schools rehearsing songs that they were going to be singing later in the evening.
Each school then went on stage to complete their technical rehearsals, all of the young people listened really well to each school’s rehearsal, clapping after each performance, before everyone entered the stage to rehearse the performance of ‘The Tempest’. The young people sat on stage and watched very quietly as the actresses began to perform the adapted musical, containing all the meaty themes of the original story: betrayal, justice and forgiveness, seasoned with plenty of comedy and mystery!
Everyone did amazingly well and stood up to sing our songs beautifully. After all the rehearsals everyone went across to Abbot Hall Park, where the young people were given some free time and had some tea in the sunshine. It was lovely to see all the young people interacting and socialising with one another and the other children in the park. Everyone then returned to the Brewery and got changed down in the dressing rooms in preparation for the show to start. Holly Trees came on stage and performed and amazing rendition of ‘This is me’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’, accompanying the lyrics with Makaton signs, to 100’s of people.
We are immensely proud of each and every one of them as they performed with lots of passion and enthusiasm during both our individual song and when performing ‘The Tempest’ collaboratively with the other schools and actresses. A massive well done to everyone involved!
