Learning is at the heart of everything we do at Underley Garden; it is what we are all about. Because we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year we have an almost unlimited supply of very real and valuable opportunities to help learning take place.
At Underley Garden we view learning as a lifelong process which takes place as much in everyday life as in traditional educational settings. In this context, learning is understood in a very broad sense and should encompass development of the “whole child”, for example, learning to manage difficult feelings safely, finding out about the world around us, studying for an important exam or making a cup of tea.
Our work gives practical expression to the view that the classroom is not the only place in which worthwhile lessons and learning can take place.
We believe that we all have the potential to learn from everything we do and we believe that learning gives people the opportunity to ‘be all that they can be’. We know that all learning must be outcomes focused if it is to be effective. We view the core purpose of education as developing in every young person the capacity to live a fulfilling life and to help others to do so.
“Personalisation is an underpinning principle at Underley Garden. A user friendly and flexible curriculum structure is essential so that we have the capacity to build personalised programmes around the needs of each young person”.
At Underley Garden we offer three pathways to learning in order to support all learners achieve to the best of their ability; these are outlined below- click on each one to find out more information.

All young people are considered for courses that can lead to recognised qualifications within the National Qualifications Framework. Because of the opportunity offered by a combination of education and care facilities the school is able to offer a fully personalised 24-hour curriculum. Careful planning across care and education ensures that there is continuity when the young people move from the school setting to their home. This provides consistency of approach and enables each young person to practice and reinforce skills and knowledge in a range of contexts.
Underley Garden is in or near to a wide variety of environments and special amenities. The Fylde Coast, with its leisure facilities, is within easy reach. The Dales National Park and the Lake District are on our doorstep.
