Home News & Events Lancaster Castle History Trip
Q5 are currently studying ‘Crime and Punishment’ within their History lessons, this topic will aid them in completing their Entry Level Qualifications. As part of their learning, we visited Lancaster Castle and joined a public tour. The class were given a tour of the grounds and were shown the most recent prison which closed in 2011 as well as visiting the medieval cells; some of our young people were brave enough to go into these to experience what it would have been like for prisoners in the 18th century.
The learners also viewed the crown court and were given a talk about what the role of a courthouse is and how this specific room was used to deal with trials of different offences, including witch trials.
After the tour we visited the Well tower to look at the exhibition on the Pendle witches where we discussed the punishment for witches at that time and how famous Lancaster was within history for the trials of witchcraft.
This was a great trip and the learners engaged brilliantly in the tour, listening to fantastic history facts and embedding their learning so far.
