During the Summer term, OT and SALT carried out weekly collaborative sessions, working with Holly’s class around relationships and appropriate behaviours/personal boundaries. All 7 young people fully enjoyed engaging in these sessions each week and throughout highlighted a developing understanding of different types of relationships, people who fall into each of their own relationship categories (staff = teachers, care staff and family = mum, dad etc.) and appropriate behaviours within each category (i.e. ‘is it ok to hug care staff?’). The young people also learnt some new Makaton signs for ‘friends’ ‘family’ ‘teachers’ and ‘strangers’, and demonstrated an excellent ability to remember and complete these signs with growing confidence in front of their peers, each week.
